Modern Christian Renaissance Woman Defined

I have entitled this blog "Christian Renaissance Woman" because I am a Christian woman who has a passion for the arts, literature, history and learning. In addition, the Renaissance is one my favorite historical periods to study. As a writer, artist, actress, singer and one who continues to aspire to knew achievements and disciplines, I hope to one day be a modern Christian "renaissance" woman, myself. :)

Secondly, as a Christian, it breaks my heart that the arts have often been neglected or rejected entirely within the Church and various sects of Christianity throughout its history. As a Christian, I believe that God is the author of all creativity; therefore, our talents and abilities are endowed and encouraged by Him. It is exciting to see Christians making bold moves to reclaim the arts and sciences for God, whether it be as an evangelical tool, worship medium or, simply, personal expression; however, there if far more to be done in this regard.

Finally, I want to remove the intimidating aura that surrounds the sentiment of one being a renaissance man or woman. In my opinion, a true modern Christian renaissance woman can look like any woman. She can be student aspiring to a solid formal education or a woman largely self-taught. She can be a mother who studies and learns and trains her children whether through homeschooling or helping with after-school homework. She can be a woman who has a career while balancing a family or a single woman exploring the world and building a life.

The main criteria by my estimation is that a modern christian renaissance woman is someone who seeks to better herself through the study and practice of Scripture, seeks out knowledge as God gave her the capability, engages in and supports the arts (be it by appreciation or participation) and never ceases to explore and experience the world around her given by God.

If this sounds like the kind of woman you would like to be, then please join me on my journey. Someday, I hope to be live up to the title, too. :)
